Acceptable Use Policy
1. Scope
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") applies to all services provided by Echo Reply, including DNS by Echo Reply, our web-based interface, API, and any related infrastructure. By using our services, you agree to comply with this policy in addition to our Terms of Service.
We may update this policy at any time. You are responsible for reviewing it periodically and ensuring your use of our services remains compliant.
2. Prohibited uses
You may not use Echo Reply services to facilitate, support, or engage in any of the following:
- Malware distribution — Hosting, resolving, or directing traffic to domains that distribute malware, ransomware, trojans, or other malicious software
- Phishing — Operating domains that impersonate legitimate organisations or services to deceive users into disclosing credentials, financial information, or other sensitive data
- Spam infrastructure — Using our DNS services to support bulk unsolicited email, including operating mail servers or DNS records for known spam operations
- Illegal content — Hosting or resolving domains that distribute child sexual abuse material (CSAM), facilitate human trafficking, or provide access to other content that is illegal under EU or Danish law
- Fraud and deception — Operating domains used for advance-fee fraud, fake online shops, investment scams, or other fraudulent schemes
- Intellectual property infringement — Using our services to wilfully infringe on the intellectual property rights of others, including trademark and copyright violations
- Network attacks — Using our infrastructure to launch or facilitate denial-of-service attacks, brute-force attacks, or other attacks against third-party systems
3. DNS-specific restrictions
Given the nature of our DNS management services, the following additional restrictions apply:
- DNS amplification attacks — You may not configure DNS records or zones in a manner designed to amplify traffic for denial-of-service attacks against third parties
- Fast-flux DNS — You may not use rapidly changing DNS records to obscure the location of malicious infrastructure or evade law enforcement
- Domain squatting — You may not register or manage domains solely for the purpose of reselling them at inflated prices (cybersquatting) or to impersonate established brands (typosquatting)
- Wildcard abuse — You may not configure wildcard DNS records to intercept traffic intended for non-existent subdomains for malicious purposes
- Zone poisoning — You may not intentionally create DNS records that redirect users to malicious or deceptive destinations
4. Abuse reporting
If you become aware of a violation of this policy, we encourage you to report it. Reports can be submitted to abuse@echo-reply.net.
When reporting abuse, please include:
- The domain name(s) or DNS records involved
- A description of the suspected violation
- Any supporting evidence (URLs, screenshots, log excerpts)
- Your contact information so we can follow up if needed
We review all reports promptly and treat reporter information as confidential. You will receive an acknowledgement within 2 business days.
5. Enforcement actions
When we identify a violation of this policy, we may take one or more of the following actions depending on the severity and nature of the violation:
- Warning — For first-time or minor violations, we may issue a written warning and request that you remedy the issue within a specified timeframe
- Suspension — We may temporarily suspend the affected DNS zones, records, or your entire account while we investigate or while you remedy the violation
- Termination — For severe or repeated violations, we may permanently terminate your account and delete all associated data
- Immediate action — In cases involving illegal activity, imminent harm to third parties, or active network attacks, we may suspend or terminate services without prior notice
Where possible, we will notify you before or at the time enforcement action is taken, and provide an explanation of the violation.
6. Appeals
If you believe an enforcement action was taken in error, you may submit an appeal to abuse@echo-reply.net within 14 days of receiving the enforcement notice. Your appeal should include:
- Your account identifier and the affected domain(s)
- An explanation of why you believe the action was incorrect
- Any evidence supporting your position
We will review appeals within 5 business days and notify you of the outcome. Our decision on appeal is final.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on our website at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
